The Sellaronda Skimarathon is an international touring-ski competition that takes place at bight around the Sella Massif, along the most famous ski runs of the world. This competition is open to 2-people teams and, due to its technical features, it is reserved only to expert and skilled skiers. The athletes run equipped with specific touring skis with synthetic seal skins on, for the ascents, and they wear special front lamps to ski all the way down the steep downhill runs. The track is really amazing and it connects the main resorts of the four Ladin valleys where, every year, in turn, the start and the arrival of the competition takes place (this year in Canazei).
The competitors have to ski along a total of 42 kilometres overcoming the most famous Four Passes of the Dolomites: the Sella, the Gardena, the Campolongo and the Pordoi passes for a total height difference of 2700 m. An exciting and enduring race, just for very qualified and trained skiers who have to be prepared even to face very insecure tracks and changing weather conditions. It can really be considered a truly unique touring ski competition in the world!
